DESIGN + BUILD PROCESS
Please find a description below of how you can expect your project to be managed from first contact to installation
A Personal Service
From your first enquiry to the completion of your furniture, you will work directly with me, James Mitchell. By operating without showrooms, sales teams, or expensive advertising campaigns, I am able to offer a more personal and collaborative experience. This approach allows us to focus entirely on creating furniture that is tailored to your needs, resulting in a product that you will genuinely enjoy and appreciate.
⸻
Enquiries and Estimates
Once an enquiry has been received, I will endeavour to provide an estimated cost for the work you are considering. However, this is not always possible, depending on the complexity and scope of the project.
Please note that all estimates are provided as a guide only and do not constitute an agreed price. To proceed further, a design consultation will be arranged in order to gather the information required to prepare a full quotation.
⸻
The Planning Phase – Design Consultation, Quotation and Amendments
I will arrange a visit to your home to discuss your project in detail and gather any information required to prepare a quotation. Using this information, I will then produce drawings (where necessary) and a formal quotation.
Please note the following:
* Estimates, design consultations, and quotations are provided free of charge.
* An initial drawing may also be provided free of charge, depending on the complexity of the project.
* Full sets of drawings will require a 10% deposit based on the initial quotation.
* The initial quotation may be subject to change if the design is altered during the planning process.
To protect my design work, which is unfortunately often subject to unauthorised use, any drawings provided prior to a deposit being paid will not include detailed measurements.
Once a deposit has been received, a full set of drawings including all measurements will be supplied upon request. Alternatively, and at my discretion, detailed drawings may be supplied prior to a deposit for a minimum charge of £250.
⸻
Payment Structure, Construction and Installation
Payments are made in three stages:
1. 25% Deposit (or 15% where a 10% drawing deposit has already been paid) upon approval of the design.
2. 50% Interim Payment, due 1–2 weeks prior to the installation date.
3. 25% Final Payment, due within 7 days of completion.
The deposit secures both the agreed design and your installation slot. Deposits are non-negotiable and non-refundable.
By paying the deposit, you confirm your acceptance of the agreed design, quotation, and Terms & Conditions, which will be included with your quotation.
Please note that any changes to an agreed design after approval may incur additional costs.
During the planning phase, we will agree on a provisional installation date. Lead times typically range from 8–12 weeks from receipt of the deposit to installation, although this may vary depending on workload and project requirements.
Please be aware:
* Installation dates cannot be confirmed until the deposit has been received.
* Installation dates are rarely changed; however, in exceptional circumstances, adjustments may be necessary. Should this occur, I will communicate with you as early as possible and work to minimise any inconvenience.
Installation work will be carried out within your home, as close as practical to the final installation area. To ensure the installation runs efficiently, I will require as much working space as possible within the room.
Every effort will be made to protect your home and belongings using dust sheets and floor protection. Once the work is complete, the area will be thoroughly cleaned, and disruption kept to a minimum wherever possible.
Please note that if insufficient working space is provided and this results in delays, additional charges may apply.
Installation hours are typically between 8:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.
⸻
Final Payment and Payment Terms
Upon completion of the installation or delivery, a final invoice will be issued by email and must be paid by bank transfer within 7 days.
Failure to make payment within 30 days of the due date will result in an additional charge equal to 10% of the outstanding invoice total, applied every 30 days thereafter until the balance has been recovered.
Payment retention will not be accepted under any circumstances.
⸻
Agreements
By arranging a design consultation or paying a deposit, you acknowledge and agree to the information outlined above.
